"Chrono Trigger"

Opening
Well, Chrono Cross was suppose to come out today and I'm stuck, unable to get it thanks to school. But anyway, I'll review Chrono Trigger instead.

Graphics
Really good for it's time. Each sprite is done very well, and the effects were great for the SNES. Bosses are usually big and detailed. The Triple and Double Techs all look good as each character jumps and moves around to perform the attack. The various scenes are also a pleasure to look at. Magus's large, glooming castle, the fun of the fair, or the dark courtroom and prison. In otherwords, great graphics all around.

Sound
The music really shines in this game. Battle themes are fast pased, while the Sewers are a bit slower with running water in the background. Death Mountain has a good theme, and the final boss's theme goes perfect with it's surroundings. The sound effects are all nicely done, a monsters roar, or the crossbow arrow firing. Great Sound, and of course no voice acting.

Story
The best feature of the story is definately the time traveling. (As it should be.) Going back and forth through time, doing one thing and seeing it's results is amazing. Sometimes just a yes or no can change something majorly in the future. The basic story goes: Crono's friend Lucca is showing off her Transporter. When Crono steps on he transports from one pad to another. When Crono's new friend Marle tries it, things go wrong. Crono goes back in time to find her. But as the three travel through time, they find out something horrible happens in the future and set out to stop it. While the characters could of used a little more development, the actual story is pretty good. Not the best I've seen though.

Gameplay
This game is just all around fun to play. The battle system is different as enemies are on screen and you can dodge them. Well some of them, a lot of enemies just suddenly jump out if you go near things, while others fly out no matter what. It all seems like a random battle. When you enter a battle instead of going to a separate battle screen, your Hp/Mp and menu appear right there and you start fighting. A nice feature. Another nice feature are Techs, after each battle you gain Tech Points allowing the participating characters to learn new attack abilities. That's not all the characters can also combine these abilities. Say Crono learns a whirl slash and Lucca a fire shot. These two can be used together to create a fire whirl. These are called Double Techs. Triple Techs are also included allowing three characters to deal out a huge amount of damage. Although to learn all the Techs it means trying out different characters in battles. Some parties of three may never learn one triple tech, so you'll have to switch to find the three that will. Magic can also be used in some Techs. Magic is given to the characters at a certain point in the game and you can gain new magic as you level up. Outside of battles the game has many different towns, from Crono's home town to a dome in the future. Each area has a few puzzles, but many are easy. Maps are battle safe, and traveling from place to place is quick and easy. Along the way you'll find portals to other times, and even get a time traveling aircraft. Another useful feature is the ability to switch characters at any time outside of battle.

Replay Value
Amazing replay value. With quite a few endings (about 11)this game has a lot of replay value. Depending on what you decide to do and what you decide NOT to do will effect your ending. After beating the game once you get a New Game + mode and opens up even more endings. This game'll last you a while.

Difficulty(Medium)
The game all around isn't too hard. Near the end you may get lost, but explore the times and you'll find a new sidequest. You can get to the final boss near the beginning of the game. Or you can complete all the sidequests, then head to the final boss. Battles are usually easy with the exception of a couple boss battles, and the only difficulty is finding out the sidequests.

Buy or Rent?
Buy if you can find it. Auctions are pretty good for finding it. Unless you hate RPG's I suggest a buy.

MY Score 9/10
